The loss of U.T. Gandhi has left a silence that is difficult to put into words.
Umberto was much more than an extraordinary musician and drummer. For me, he was a friend, a brother, a constant presence in my life for so many years. Someone with whom I shared music, countless recording sessions, projects, conversations, laughter, difficult moments and dreams.
At Artesuono, his presence became part of the history of the studio itself. So many records, so many musicians, so many unforgettable moments carry something of him. Sometimes I still expect to see him walking through the door, sitting behind the drums, or simply being there with that unmistakable humanity of his.
Losing him has been incredibly painful. There are people whose absence does not simply leave an empty space — it changes the shape of your life. Umberto was one of those people.
But I also know that what we shared cannot disappear. It remains in the music we made together, in the memories, in the people he touched, and in every recording where his sound, his sensitivity and his soul are still alive.
I miss him deeply, every day.
And I feel incredibly fortunate to have walked such a long part of my life beside him.
Thank you, Umberto.
For the music, for the friendship, for everything.
You will always be part of me.
